Dave Ayers is leader of the new Common Engineering group, as part of Nortel?s Chief Technology Office. In this role, Dave is responsible for Nortel?s common R&D and technology development, including Software and Hardware platforms and elements, Network Management, Silicon, Industrial design, Services R&D, and Solutions Test.
Dave has worked in the telecom industry for 27 years in a variety of engineering roles, including as the leader of large R&D and operations organizations spanning multiple global sites. Previously at Lucent, he held a number of senior leadership positions, including having responsibility for R&D across the optical, access, data and carrier Ethernet portfolios and responsibility for Common Engineering, which included open standard hardware and software platforms, OAM, physical design, reliability engineering, quality management and new product introduction (NPI) processes. He also held leadership roles in supplier management and procurement across the businesses and was General Manager for the Intelligent Networks software business.
Dave holds a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering degree, with high distinction honors, from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He and his wife Beth have three children.
